During the presidential campaign last year, topics on crime justice and crime control were discussed frequently by the final two candidates. Major differences in stands were further debated on whether crime issues could be mitigated by strengthening police power and law enforcement, or by addressing the systematic racism in criminal justice system.
In regardless of which theory is more reliable, the recent soaring increases in murder rate and/ or other types of violent crimes (e.g. rapes, robberies, assaults) in large American cities such as Chicago, Milwaukee and Baltimore, have brought urban crime issues to the front desk of all cities' decision makers.
This map shows the crime indexes for total 48 most populous U.S. cities relative to their respective states. In addition, by sequencing through the crime index changes of the cities from 2001 to 2015, the map may provide users certain insights on how to construct a healthier and safer urban environment.
