Sifting Through Millions of Phone Calls

Featured @ Penn State

By counting and geo-referencing total number of calls for each caller (Syrian refugees or natives in Turkey) by types of callees (Syrian refugees or natives in Turkey), I here mapped two geographic patterns of phone calls: 1) calls placed by refugees and received by natives; 2) calls placed by natives and received by refugees. These results returned me an overall sense in terms of where the cities/ places that could contribute to social integration between refugees and natives are. Studies on potential correlation between refugee individuals' activity spaces and types of built environment (e.g. POIs, land uses) will be further explored.
